The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited entered into an agreement with the Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital here on Saturday to help conducting 300 orbit, ophthalmic plastics and lacrymal surgeries on the BPL patients over the next two years. The assistance is being given under the CSR activities of the BHEL. General Manager in-charge of BHEL's corporate office Ashwini Kumar inaugurated the orbit and ophthalmic plastics department named after BHEL at the eye hospital. Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital has so far performed 1.33 lakh surgeries (85 per cent of them total surgeries) free of cost for the benefit of BPL patients, said HoD of orbit and ophthalmic plastics department Mallajosyula Subrahmanyam and the hospital would be able to extend its services with the help from organisations like BHEL and eradicate preventable blindness.

General Manager of BHPV Murali, AGM of BHEL Raghuraman, Senior Manager (HR) Seetha Lakshmi, chief medical officer of BHPV Aruna Balaji, managing trustee of Sankar Foundation Mani Mala, managing trustee Vijay Kumar, and executive trustee Ram Kumar were present.
