BHEL forays into lake purification business under smart city initiative

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), the country’s largest power equipment manufacturer, today announced its foray into lake purification business with a maiden order for purification of Telibandha lake in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The move, part of a larger diversification strategy, is aimed at ramping up focus on water business. BHEL’s maiden order in the segment was placed by Raipur Smart City Ltd including the operation and maintenance for five years. “This is the first ever order of its kind from the Smart Cities segment using Phytorid Technology developed by the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), which is an environment friendly technology,” the company said in a statement. It added that the order will be executed by BHEL’s Project Engineering & Systems Division (PESD) based in Hyderabad. BHEL and NEERI have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for working jointly on projects related to water and waste water treatment in the municipal segment. “The synergy of the two organizations is being utilized to address this business segment, besides exploring various other avenues of joint working,” the firm said. BHEL develops water management systems for core sectors of the economy including Power, Industry and Municipalities and offers turnkey solutions for De-Mineralised Water, potable water applications and domestic sewage treatment systems. BHEL wins 75 MW solar photovoltaic plant in Gujarat

BHEL said today that it has won its largest solar photovoltaic project till date for setting up a 75 MW power plant in Gujarat. The order has been placed by Gujarat Industries Power Company Ltd (GIPCL). "Against stiff competitive bidding, BHEL has won an order for setting up a 75 MW solar photovoltaic (SPV) power plant on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis, in Gujarat. Significantly, this will be BHEL's largest Solar PV project till date," Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd said in a statement. The order for setting up the 75 MW SPV power plant at Gujarat solar park, Charanka, has been placed on BHEL by GIPCL, it added. With this order, BHEL said, its solar portfolio has risen to 545 MW. The company is presently executing over 150 MW of ground-mounted and rooftop Solar PV projects across the country. BHEL to make Li ion cells with ISRO technology

BHEL said it would set up a facility at its Bengaluru unit to make the cells using ISRO technology. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has signed a technology transfer agreement with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd for the manufacture of space grade lithium ion cells for the space programme and other national requirements. BHEL said it would set up a facility at its Bengaluru unit to make the cells using ISRO technology. The Li-ion batteries power various applications on satellites and launch vehicles. Currently BHEL assembles and tests Li ion batteries using imported cells. "The technology can also be extended for use in the emerging areas of energy storage and e-mobility," the public sector major said. ISRO said its rocketry centre Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre at Thiruvananthapuram has developed the technology to produce space grade Li ion cells. BHEL inks tech pact with Korea-based HLB Power

BHEL today said it has entered into a technology collaboration agreement (TCA) with HLB Power, Republic of Korea. The collaboration is for in-house design and manufacture of large size gates and dampers for use in coal fired power plants, to be commissioned or retrofitted with high capacity emission control equipment, a BHEL statement said. In the presence of Atul Sobti, CMD, BHEL, the TCA was signed by Subrata Biswas, Director (E, R&D) BHEL and Dr. Jong Weon Kim, CEO and Director, HLB Power at BHEL's corporate office here. Bhel commissions 1st unit of Kishanganga hydro project in J&K

BhelBSE 0.78 % today said it has commissioned first unit of 110 MW of the Kishanganga hydro-electric project (HEP) of NHPC in Jammu and Kashmir. Located on the river Kishanganga, a tributary of the Jhelum in Bandipora district, all the three units of the 340 MW project will generate 1,350 million units (MU) of clean electricity annually, a Bhel statement said. The other two units are also in advanced stages of commissioning. Bhel was entrusted with execution of the Electro-Mechanical (E&M) package for the project comprising design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of Vertical Shaft Pelton Turbines and matching synchronous Generators, Controls & Monitoring (SCADA) System along with electrical and mechanical auxiliaries. The equipment was supplied from Bhel's manufacturing units at Bhopal, Jhansi, Rudrapur and Bengaluru while the execution of works on site was carried out by the company's Power Sector Northern Region division and Transmission Business Group. BHEL commissions 600MW unit at Rayalaseema thermal power plant

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has commissioned a 600MW coal-based unit at the Rayalaseema thermal power project in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. With the commissioning of the new unit, the capacity of the Rayalaseema thermal power plant in Cuddapah district has gone up to 1,650MW. The Rayalaseema coal-fired power station has been developed in four stages till date, with the first two units commissioned in 1994. In 2007, two more units were brought into service and three years later, one unit of 210MW was commissioned to take the power plant’s capacity beyond 1GW. BHEL was given a contract of Rs14.45bn ($319.97m) by Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO) in 2011 to set up the 600MW unit for the power station. The new 600MW thermal power unit has joined the previously commissioned five units of the thermal power plant, each having a capacity of 210MW. BHEL bags Rs 11,700 crore order for setting up thermal power plant in Jharkhand

Bharat Heavy ElectricalsBSE 0.35 % Limited (BHELBSE 0.35 %) today said it has won a Rs 11,700 crore order for setting up a 3x800 MW thermal power plant in Jharkhand. "The order for setting up the 3x800 MW Patratu Super Thermal Power Station Expansion, Phase-I (3x 800 MW) has been placed on BHEL by Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (PVUNL - a subsidiary of NTPC LtdBSE -0.51 % in joint venture with Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd)," BHEL said in a BSE filing. Located at Patratu in Ramgarh district of Jharkhand, the project will be executed by BHEL on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis, it added.
