BHEL HARIDWAR DIVERSIFIES INTO DEFENCE SECTOR FOR GROWTH

Five years ago, China was perceived to be a threat to India particularly in the power sector market, but not anymore. The indigenous manufacturing enterprises of India have ousted the Chinese and established themselves enhancing their production capacities to match the domestic requirement while also improving in the quality aspect. Increasing their capacities to 30,000 MW countrywide and 20,000 MW by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) alone, India has now become a supply base in the power sector, aver officials. Post drawback of Yamunanagar thermal power plant which was shut down for a long period on account of Chinese-made rotor fault, people have become cautious and now place trust BHEL in terms of quality. The plus point of replacing China is that with the increased indigenous competition, the manufacturer always has to give the product quality up to the mark thus benefiting the customer, at a competitive price. With good sustainability achieved this year in terms of production as per the prevailing market situation, BHEL Haridwar has further planned for diversification into Defence Sector for further growth. Manufacturing high power Naval guns for Indian Navy, BHEL Haridwar targets Rs 1000 crore business in next five years. Also, talks are on with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL). Speaking to The Pioneer, Executive Director of BHEL Haridwar, Prakash Chand said, “We are in touch with customer for supplying turbine and generator sets for nuclear power plants and hopefully good order book shall be generated this year. Having successfully manufactured and supplied 76 mm naval guns, plans are also afoot to make 30 mm naval guns this year. By 2018, 110 such guns shall be manufactured by our unit,” he said. more at: http://www.dailypioneer.com/state-editions/bhel-haridwar-diversifies-into-defence-sector-for-growth.html
