BHEL starts 2,730-mw power projects in first half of 2015-16

Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) today said it has commissioned 2,730 mw of utility power projects in the first six months of 2015-16. "BHEL has once again demonstrated its project execution prowess with the commissioning of 2,730 mw of utility power projects in the first half of the current financial year (2015-16)... It is also more than double the power project commissioning achievement of 1,167 mw in the corresponding period of last year," the company said in a statement. The company further said power generation has also commenced from the BHEL-supplied 660-mw unit at Lalitpur thermal power station (TPS) in Uttar Pradesh. Significantly, the 11 utility sets commissioned by BHELBSE -0.77 % have been with projects across the country. Projects in the North include two units each of 200 mw at Koldam hydro electric project (HEP) in Himachal Pradesh and four units each of 82.5 mw at Shrinagar HEP in Uttarakhand, it said. Also, two thermal sets of 500 mw each -- one at Anpara in Uttar Pradesh and another at Vindhyachal in Madhya Pradesh -- have been commissioned during the year. The 660-mw Lalitpur unit was synchronised 3 months ahead of schedule. Notably, this is the first supercritical set to be commissioned in Uttar Pradesh. BHEL has started the 250-mw Bongaigaon Unit-1 in Assam. 12 BHEL employees win Vishwakarma awards

Twelve employees of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchi, have won three Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar (VRP) awards for 2013. The Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar awards were instituted in 1965 by the Centre for rewarding and recognising the suggestions leading to outstanding achievement or good performance on the part of workers in increasing productivity, quality, safety, working condition, and import substitution at industrial undertakings. J.Veeramani, artisan, R.Shanmuga Velusamy, Deputy Engineer, S. Loganathan, artisan, N. Senthil Kumar, artisan, and R. Rathinam, artisan from Boiler Production of BHEL, Tiruchi, have jointly won a VRP Class B award for developing a fixture to counter balance multi axis jobs during auto welding. Class B awards consists of a cash award of Rs. 50,000 and a certificate. M. Padmanaban, artisan, M. Ganesan, artisan, and P. Tamilselvan, assistant engineer, from Boiler Production have jointly won a VRP Class C award for effecting cycle time reduction in elbow manufacturing process. S. Arockiasamy, auxiliary worker; A. Senthilkumar, semi skilled worker; S. Sathish Kumar, artisan; and M. Vijayakumar, artisan from Boiler Production, have jointly won a VRP Class C award for developing hydraulic lifting machine for dish end cover joint fit-up in headers. Class C awards consist of a cash award of Rs. 25,000 and a certificate. The employees received the awards from Bandaru Dattatreya, Minister of State for Labour and Employment (Independent Charge), at a function held in New Delhi recently.
