Bhel commissions 3,200 MW hydro unit in Mizoram

BhelBSE -0.80 % said today that it has commissioned the second unit of the Tuirial Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Mizoram. The unit has been commissioned by Bhel in less than a 100 days of the commissioning of the first one, Bhel said in a statement. Located in Kolasib district of Mizoram, the greenfield project of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) has been set up on the river Tuirial. Power generation from Tuirial HEP will contribute significantly to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and contribute towards achieving a low carbon development path for the nation, Bhel said. NTPC power plants face Bhel equipment woes

State-run NTPC Ltd has been facing problems at several of its power projects due to issues related to equipment supplied by Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (Bhel), said several people aware of the developments. Turbine-generator (TG) sets supplied by India’s largest power generation equipment manufacturer to the country’s largest electricity utility have developed problems at Bongaigaon (Assam), Vallur (Tamil Nadu), Rihand and Faridabad (UP) plants over the last three years. This comes in the backdrop of ongoing investigations into the explosion at the recently commissioned 500 megawatts (MW) unit of NTPC’s 1,550MW Unchahar plant, the equipment for which was supplied by Bhel. The project supplies electricity to Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttarakhand. G. Uday Kumar to head BHEL-ISG, Bengaluru

G. Uday Kumar, 58, has taken charge as General Manager Incharge of Industrial Systems Group (ISG), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL). Prior to this, Kumar was General Manager (GT, NBS, HR & Medical) at BHEL-HPEP, Hyderabad. A mechanical engineering graduate from Osmania University, Hyderabad, Kumar has 34 years of experience working in different areas including oil rigs, pulvarisers and also as Director (HR) at the erstwhile BHPV, Vizag, which is the 17th unit of BHEL. He also headed HR at BHEL-HPEP, Hyderabad, before being elevated as General Manager Incharge to head BHEL-ISG. BHEL gains on bagging 765 kV substation order

Bharat Heavy ElectricalsBSE 0.78 % (BHELBSE 0.78 %) advanced in early trade on Thursday after the power-major bagged an order for setting up two 765 kV substations on engineering, procurement and construction basis, in West Bengal. Following the development, the stock gained 1.11 per cent to Rs 91 on BSE. It opened at Rs 90 and touched an intraday high and low of Rs 91.45 and Rs 90 respectively, in the first hour of trade. BHEL aims to increase non-power revenue to 40% by 2022

The state-owned power equipment major, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is aiming at doubling the non-power revenue by 2022 and the projects will be executed on a turnkey basis. The areas like municipal water, Ganga mission, solar, aerospace, defense and metro and high speed rail projects have been identified as growth drivers. "Currently, our non-power business is 20 percent and we are aiming at doubling it to 40 percent by 2022," BHEL Director Amitabh Mathur told PTI.
