BHEL commissions power gear with 7,900-MW capacity

Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has commissioned thermal and hydro power equipment, with a cumulative capacity of 7,900 MW this fiscal.

The state-run power gear maker had synchronised 8,108 MW capacity in the last fiscal.

Till March 23 this year, BHEL has commissioned equipment having a total capacity of 7,900 MW, according to a company statement.
Equipment having a cumulative capacity of 1,625 MW, for both thermal and hydro power projects, were commissioned in just 24 hours.

"Four of the projects -- 525 MW Unit-2 of Maithon Power, 500 MW Unit-2 of KPCL Bellary, 500 MW Unit-2 of DVC Durgapur and 100 MW Unit-4 of THDC Koteshwar [Hydro] -- were synchronised and achieved full load in just 24 hours," it said.

The Maithon and the KPCL Bellary projects are in Jharkhand, while the DVC Durgapur project is in West Bengal. The THDC Koteshwar plant is in Uttarakhand.

BHEL received total orders of 31,560 MW for power plant equipment during 2009-10 and 2010-11.

The company has the capability to deliver 15,000 MW per annum and further augmentation to 20,000 MW per annum is underway.
