Bhel to trim hiring on gloomy outlook

In a reflection of the current business environment, state-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (Bhel) has slashed the number of engineers it plans to hire this year. “There is an employee cost,” chairman and managing director B.P. Rao said. “I can’t keep on hiring without keeping an eye on what is happening in the sector.” India’s largest power generation equipment manufacturer used to hire an average of around 1,000 engineers every year, a number that dropped to 250 in the year ended March. In the current fiscal year, Bhel intends to hire just 200 engineers, human resources director R. Krishnan said. Most of the firm’s 13,564 executives are engineers. ref: http://www.livemint.com/Companies/3KQ0xG0HzxNb9j5aDXqOeK/Bhel-to-trim-hiring-on-gloomy-outlook.html
