BHEL spends the most in social activities: Govt

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd emerged as the top public sector unit in terms of funds contribution towards social commitment in 2009-10, Parliament was informed today.

BHEL spent Rs 601 lakh (in the last fiscal) on social activities like improving infrastructure, hospital services, organising medical camps and upgrading infrastructure for schools, Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises A Sai Prathap said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.

NEPA Ltd stands at the second position with contribution worth Rs 271 lakhs in 2009-10 towards free health care services to ex-employees and their spouse, organising health care camps and running schools.
This was followed by Andrew Yule and Company (Rs 256.16 lakhs), Heavy Engineering Corporation (Rs 48.90 lakhs), Hindustan Paper (Rs 34.9 lakhs) and Bharat Heavy Plate and Vessels Limited (Rs 21.95 lakhs).
