'AP to add 3300 MW power in two years'

Andhra Pradesh will add at least an additional 3,300 MW of power by March 2013-14 by making an investment of around Rs 18,000 crore.

According to an energy department press release, Suthirtha Bhattacharya, principal secretary, energy, disclosed this during a teleconference with APGenco officials on Saturday. He directed the Genco officials to strive to add another 18,503 MW by the end of 2017 and transform Andhra Pradesh into a power surplus state in the country.

According to the release, Bhattacharya has requested BHEL chairman B Prasada Rao to provide necessary support to synchronise Unit II at Stage VI of Kothagudem Thermal Power Station by this month end. With the completion of this project, it is expected that a generation of 200 MW by April and another 200 MW by May and the entire 500 MW by this June will be added to the state grid.
