BHEL eyes business in Kerala

As part of its efforts to expand its base of away centre vendors, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Tiruchi Complex, has invited journalists of print and electronic media from Kerala region for an industrial tour during the course of this week.

An experimentation a few months ago by BHEL, Tiruchi, when it invited a media team consisting of business reporters from Kolkata has fetched the desired results; owing to the awareness created by the media, prospective vendors from West Bengal are making enquiries for sub-contracting business with the Seamless Steel Tube Plant, official sources said. The visibility of BHEL created through the media in Kerala is also expected to create similar business opportunities for the PSU, the sources explained.

Besides the BHEL's shop floors and the Welding Research Institute of national importance, the media team from Kerala will also be taken to the units of front-ranking vendors for an understanding of the dynamics of the sub-contracting business. BHEL officials explain that presence of sub-contractors closer to project sites will help in decreasing the cycle time of product delivery.

Poised to exceed Rs. 12,500 crore turnover mark this fiscal, BHEL, Tiruchi Complex, is on a phenomenal expansion mode to attain a target of 20,000 MW capacity by 2012.
