BHEL, Spain's Abengoa to develop concentrated solar power projects in India

The public sector Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Spain's Abengoa, the European leader in the solar energy segment, have joined hands to develop state-of-the-art concentrated solar power (CSP) projects in India.

An agreement in this regard was signed in Seville, Spain by BHEL Chairman and Managing Director B P Rao and Abengoa Solar Chairman and CEO Santiago Seage.

A press release from BHEL said the agreement would enable the two companies to leverage their capabilities in offering engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) solutions for CSP projects in India.

It would also give them the opportunity to explore cooperation in energy projects in other parts of the world, the release said.

According to it, the agreement is significant in the context of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, recently launched by the Government of India, which aims at setting up 20,000 MW of solar power projects by 2022. The mission depicts the county’s commitment to the abatement of green house gas emission aimed at reducing global warming.

Abengoa serves the solar, bio-energy, environmental services and power generation sectors and has a presence in Europe, the United States, Latin America, Africa and Asia.

BHEL is the the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in India in the energy-related infrastructure sector
