BHEL dispatches its first wind-box

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) achieved a milestone with the dispatch of its first wind-box assembly for the 1x700 MW supercritical steam generator which is being supplied by the company for Karnataka power corporation limited's Bellary project in Karnataka. A V Krishnan, executive director, BHEL Tiruchirappalli complex flagged off the wind-box assembly from BHEL's high pressure boiler plant unit-II at Trichy. Wind-boxes are located in four corners of boilers to facilitate combustion in the furnace. For a typical 700 MW supercritical boiler unit, four wind-boxes are required. The weight of each wind-box is around 38 Metric Tonnes (MT) and each wind-box is approximately 16.5 meters tall. Valued at Rs3,700 crore, BHEL had outbid L&T under stiff international competitive bidding (ICB) to bag the order for the first 700 MW coal-fired thermal unit with supercritical parameters on turnkey basis.. ref: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/trichy/BHEL-dispatches-its-first-wind-box/articleshow/23601219.cms
