BHEL bags Rs 3,150-cr contract from MP

Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) today said it has bagged the Rs 3,150-crore contract from the Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company.

"BHEL has bagged the Rs 3,150-crore order for installing main plant package (steam turbines and generators) at the Malwa Thermal Power Project from Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company (MPPGCL)," a company statement said.

This is the first order secured by BHEL for the new-rating units of 600 MW, it said.

The company's scope of work in the contract includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of Steam Turbines, Generators, Boilers and associated Auxiliaries, including Transformers, in addition to civil works for the main power block.

The first set is scheduled to go on stream in 3 years, the second set will be commissioned in 43 months (over 3 three years) from the date of contract.

BHEL pays Rs 298-crore interim dividend to Govt.

Bharat Heavy Electricals has paid an interim dividend of Rs 298 crore to the government for the fiscal 2008-09.

The cheque was presented to Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Sontosh Mohan Dev by BHEL Chairman and Managing Director K Ravi Kumar recently.

The government, which holds 67.72 per cent stake in the company, would receive 90 per cent of the interim dividend on enhanced equity capital post-bonus for fiscal 2008-09.

BHEL plans to invest about Rs 1,000 crore in developing locomotive manufacturing facility in the country.

It has already signed a pact with GE for developing a facility to manufacture 100 to 120 diesel/electric locomotives every year at Marohwara in Bihar.

The company, which has an order backlog of Rs 1,20,000 crore to be completed in 42 months, expects a revenue growth of 25 to 30 per cent this fiscal.

BHEL set to start work on Khandwa thermal power plant

Bharat Heavy Electricals has geared up to begin work on the 1,200 MW thermal power project in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh.

Mr AK Vajpeyi senior deputy general manager of BHEL said that "We received the first installment of INR 163 crore last week from Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company to carry out major work on the upcoming power station."

Mr Vajpevi said that "MPPGCL will give us a total of INR 3,150 crore."

According to an MPPGCL official, the total cost of the project is around INR 4,500 crore and MPPGCL, among other things would raise coal and ash handling system at the thermal station.

The official added that 2 units of 600 MW will come up under the project. The first was scheduled to be commissioned by March 2012 and the second unit would be operational by July 2012.

BHEL receives first instalment for MP power plant work

Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited (MPPGCL) has handed over the first instalment of Rs 163 crore to BHEL for carrying out major works of the multi-crore 1,200 Mega Watt (MW) thermal power project in Khandwa district in the State.

"We received the first instalment of Rs 163 crore last week from MPPGCL to carry out major works of the upcoming power station — the Malwa Thermal Power Project at Purni in Khandwa district," Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited Senior Deputy General Manager A.K. Vajpeyi told PTI.

"MPPGCL will give us a total of Rs 3,150 crore to carry out major works for the upcoming thermal power project," he said.

According to an MPPGCL official, the total cost of the project is around Rs 4,500 crore and MPPGCL, among other things, would raise coal and ash handling system at the thermal station.

Two units of 600 MW will come up under the project, the official said adding that the first is scheduled to be commissioned by March 2012 and the second unit will become operational by July 2012.

Madhya Pradesh's thermal power generation capacity was 2647.5 MW, the official said adding that it would increase to 3847.5 MW after the Malwa power project comes up in 2012.

BHEL bags Rs 7,000 cr contracts

Against International Competitive Bidding (ICB), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has bagged four major contracts from various customers for the supply and installation of main plant equipment for thermal power projects. The projects, with a cumulative capacity of 3,250 MW, are located in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.

Cumulatively valued at around Rs 7,000 Crore, the contracts have been placed on BHEL by NTPC Ltd., NLC Tamil Nadu Power Limited (NTPL) and Mahagenco. All the orders were won by BHEL under ICB, as its offers were found techno-economically the best. The company has earlier supplied equipment to all the three utilities and with these orders, the customers have once again reposed confidence in BHEL's proven technological excellence and capability in executing projects of this magnitude.

Of these, NTPC Ltd. has placed two contracts for Steam Generator and Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) packages for the 2x500 MW Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) Stage-IV in Madhya Pradesh and the 2x500 MW Rihand STPP Stage-III in Uttar Pradesh. The orders envisage design, engineering, manufacture, supply and erection and commissioning of Steam Generators and ESPs along with Associated Auxiliaries.

BHEL signs MoU with KEL

Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd (BHEL) has entered into an understanding with Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Co Ltd (KEL) for setting up a joint venture (JV). The proposed venture will manufacture equipment such as wind power generators.

"We have already installed over 100,000 MW of power generating capacity world-wide. The company is gearing up to meet emerging demands in the transportation segment, which is expected to grow exponentially due to the railways plans for capacity enhancements," BHEL chairman and managing director K Ravi Kumar said.

The proposed JV expects to generate a turnover of Rs 60 crore by next year, said Mr Kumar. It would supply generators and other specific range of products to General Electricals and Siemens.

BHEL would provide necessary technical and managerial support to ensure that the venture is optimally utilised. BHEL has got orders worth about Rs 10,000 crore from National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and power generator Neyveli Lignite Corp Ltd, Mr Kumar said.

KEL signs MoU with BHEL

Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineering Company Ltd (KEL) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) to form a joint venture company.

The MoU envisages delinking of the Kasaragod unit of KEL to form a separate company.

BHEL is expected to invest about Rs 25 crore in this JV company, KEL said in a statement.

The MoU was signed here by KEL MD B Jyothikumar and BHEL MD K Ravi Kumar in the presence of Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Santosh Mohan Dev and Minister of State for Power Jairam Ramesh.

After the MoU, the valuation of the assets of KEL, Kasargod will be done by a reputed financial institution to be selected by mutual agreeent between KEL and BHEL.

KEL, a fully owned undertaking of the Government of Kerala, has four production units spread across the State.

KEL’s product includes high frequency alternators, frequency convertors, special alternators and power packs for missile projects.

The power packs designed and supplied by the company for missile projects like Falcon, Prithvi, Trishul and Akash have been pioneering efforts.

The company has also supplied specialalternators to the Army (Military power cars) and Air Force for Radar applications the statement added.
