Bhel skids on U-turn by NTPC

On Tuesday, shares of state-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (Bhel) tumbled 4.6% as investors reacted to news that a sizeable order from NTPC Ltd may be re-tendered. The reaction is not surprising. Bhel has been a victim of the slowdown in the power and industrial sectors. When a large order turns uncertain, it is a big negative for investors, coming on the back of existing woes of low order inflows and weak execution. Macquarie Research pointed out in a report dated 22 August that Bhel’s portion of the NTPC order accounts for about 4% of its order book. It said NTPC is likely to invite fresh bids “for only 4 gigawatt worth of projects in FY2017 with no certainty of bid closure before year-end.” That’s a blow for Bhel. Existing uncertainties are not showing any signs of letting up soon. Plant load factor of the power sector is merely 60-65%, implying that the lull in new power capacity could continue for a few more years, unless industrial activity rebounds. Till then, it will restrict orders for power equipment makers such as Bhel. more at: http://www.livemint.com/Money/ehrWWM3zLygXQvyo0uK6UO/Bhel-skids-on-Uturn-by-NTPC.html

BHEL Shares Slump Amid Uncertainty About NTPC Orders

BHEL shares slumped nearly 4 per cent on Tuesday amid concerns that the state-run power equipment manufacturer may lose a major power plant order from state-run utility NTPC. BHEL was the top-loser in the Nifty50 index. According to Macquarie, NTPC is re-visiting its tender for four power plants of 1000MW capacity each for its Pudimadaka ultra mega power project. The tender was earlier awarded to BHEL. The order accounts for around 4 per cent of BHEL's total order book, said Macquarie. The bidding for the project was based on imported coal price, but NTPC is likely to call for fresh bids based on domestic coal price, the brokerage added. As of 10.07 a.m., BHEL shares traded 2.33 per cent lower at Rs 140.55 a piece compared to 0.04 per cent gain in the broader Nifty. ref: http://profit.ndtv.com/news/market/article-bhel-shares-slump-amid-uncertainty-about-ntpc-orders-1448927

BHEL developing new types of compact heat exchangers

Vizag-based public sector undertaking BHEL-HPVP (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited - Heavy Plates and Vessels Plant) is engaged in indigenous development of new types of compact heat exchangers (CHEs) for the Light Combat Aircraft, also known as Tejas. According to BHEL-HPVP sources, the research and development department at the plant is currently engaged in indigenous development of four new types of CHEs for the Mk2 version of the Tejas aircraft (LCA-Mk2). Sources said BHEL-HPVP will be supplying 40 of these new CHEs under a project for the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), Bangalore, a DRDO agency. This will be in continuation to the earlier CHEs supplied for the LCA. Official sources said Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), Bangalore, has recently inquired with HPVP for supply of a further 100 sets of Tejas heat exchangers. Also, sources said the Indian Navy is planning to order another 40 sets of Tejas heat exchangers in the coming years. Including those supplied during the development stages, HPVP has so far supplied over 400 compact heat exchangers to ADA and HAL. ref: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/visakhapatnam/BHEL-developing-new-types-of-compact-heat-exchangers/articleshow/53793983.cms

BHEL bags Rs 169 cr order for solar photovoltaic power plant

BHEL on Tuesday said it has secured an order to set up solar photovoltaic (SPV) plants, estimated to cost Rs 169 crore. The EPC order has been placed by West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Corporation Ltd (WBSEDCL), BHEL said in a statement. Three SPV plants of 10 MW each are to be set up at Mejia (Bankura), Santaldih (Purulia) and Chharrah (Purulia) in West Bengal, it added. Earlier this year, BHEL had bagged Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) orders from Neyveli Lignite Corporation and Bharat Electronics Ltd for setting up of a 65 MW SPV Power plant at Neyveli (Tamil Nadu) and a 15 MW SPV Power Plant at Ordinance Factory Premises, Medak (Telangana) which are being implemented. In 2015 as well it bagged EPC orders from NTPC for 50 MW solar power plants each at Ananthpur (AP) and Mandsaur (MP). more at: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/BHEL-bags-Rs-169-cr-order-for-solar-photovoltaic-power-plant/articleshow/53721112.cms

BHEL achieves record project execution

The country’s nuclear power programmes and the revised emission norms for coal-based thermal power plants offered considerable business opportunity for Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchi, its Executive Director S. Gopinath said here on Monday. With the revised emission norms, the unit stood to derive significant benefit by developing the equipment required to further control nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, he said speaking at the Independence Day celebration at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at the BHEL Township. Mr. Gopinath took the salute at the ceremonial march past by BHEL Security, National Cadet Corps Home Guards, Traffic Wardens, Fire Services and campus school contingents at the Independence Day parade. The development of technologies for advanced ultra supercritical boilers and coal gasification was well on course and the Welding Research Institute of BHEL, Tiruchi, was on its way to becoming a world-class enterprise, Mr.Gopinath said. The successful in-house development of fully-bolted boiler supporting structures which are being supplied for the first time for the North Karanpura and Neyveli projects was a major technological breakthrough that will significantly reduce boiler erection cycle-time and speed up project execution. Referring to the feedback from a high-level delegation from the Kilwa Energy Company of Tanzania that visited BHEL, Tiruchi, recently, Mr. Gopinath said that the delegation was highly impressed with the manufacturing facilities and the capability of the unit. BHEL Corporation had achieved a record project execution during the previous fiscal despite the slowdown in the power sector and maintained its leadership with 74 per cent market share. ref: http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Tiruchirapalli/bhel-achieves-record-project-execution/article8993135.ece

BHEL commissions power unit at CG station

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully commissioned second 500MW thermal unit at Marwa Thermal Power Station in Chhattisgarh. Located in Janjgir-Champa district of Chhattisgarh, Marwa TPS was set up by Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Ltd. (CSPGCL). Incidentally, BHEL had earlier also commissioned the first unit of Marwa TPS. BHEL has been associated with power projects of CSPGCL (and the erstwhile Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board), from the time when the 120 MW Korba TPS Extension-I was commissioned in March 1976. Significantly, BHEL has 94% share in installed capacity of CSPGCL and has so far commissioned 11 thermal sets and three hydro sets for the state utility. In Chhattisgarh, BHEL has contributed a total of 12,500 MW to state's installed power generation capacity, including central and private sector utilities. The successful commissioning of the unit has reinforced BHEL's leadership status in execution of thermal power projects involving supply of state-of-the-art equipment, suited to Indian coal and Indian conditions. ref: http://energy.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/power/bhel-commissions-power-unit-at-cg-station/53550645
