The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) today said it will look into the allegations of bribery against officials of state-owned BHEL and NTPC once their names are disclosed by the US Department of Justice.
"We have our chief vigilance officers in all organisations and they are suppose to carry out their job," the CVC's Chief Technical Examiner, V Ramachandran, told reporters, adding that the commission will scrutinise the matter whenever it is brought to its notice.
Ramachandran said this while responding to queries on the documents presented by the US Department of Justice in an American court stating that California-based Control Component Inc had bribed officials of Indian PSUs, including BHEL, NTPC and several state electricity boards, to bag orders.
California-based Control Component Inc (CCI) on June 31, 2009, pleaded guilty before the US court to having committing bribery in 36 countries from 2003 to 2007.

West Bengal PDCL in talks with BHEL to set up thermal units at power plants -
The West Bengal Power Development Corporation (PDCL) is negotiating with Central sector organizations to set up large thermal power units in some of the existing power stations in the state in an effort to meet the power shortage, power minister Nirupam Sen said in the assembly on Wednesday.
"We have talked to NTPC to set up new 660-MW units at Santaldih. Similarly, we want to enter into a joint venture with Bhel to set up 800-MW units at Katwa," he said.
Sen said PDCL wanted to set up these "supercritical units" to meet the increasing demand for power in future but did not have the technical expertise to do. That's why it was necessary to have joint ventures with NTPC and Bhel.

US co bribed several Indian firms to bag lucrative contracts- BHEL employees included !!
Officials of Indian PSUs like BHEL and NTPC appear to be the beneficiaries of bribes that were doled out by a California-based valve company to bag lucrative contracts, mostly for tools used in the construction of power plants.
Prominent among these Indian companies are Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, Maharashtra State Electricity Board, Haryana State Electricity Board, National Thermal Power Corporation and Bhilai Electric, according to documents submitted by the US Department of Justice before a US court.

According to court documents, the CCI -- in two installments on November 6, 2006 and January 9, 2009 -- made a total payment of USD 69,012 to BHEL and MSEB.
BHEL officials are reported to be the beneficiaries in several other instances, but most of the amounts are less than USD 5,000.
In 2007, officials of the Bhilai Electricals are believed to have received USD 8,600, while those of HSEB received USD 15,802 through a transaction on July 7, 2007.

BHEL to declare Q1 results on Jul 23, 2010
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has announced that a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Company will be held on July 23, 2010, inter alia, to consider and take on record the Unaudited Financial Results of the Company for the Quarter ended on June 30, 2010 (Q1).
The stock was trading at Rs.2378, up by Rs.18.25 or 0.77%. The stock hit an intraday high of Rs.2383.20 and low of Rs.2359.
The total traded quantity was 16384 compared to 2 week average of 52329.

Expect increase in public, pvt sector order book: BHEL
Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) is confident of maintaining its lead in the boiler-turbine-generator (BTG) Space. Commenting on the impending BTG bulk tender from NTPC, for which even L&T is a contender, BP Rao, Chairman, BHEL said NTPC has called for its re-tendering. Some brokerage reports had suggested that Larsen & Toubro has been disqualified from the 11x660 mw BTG bulk tender.
Rao said margins and market share are important and he expect public & private sector order book to grow. However, raw materials for the capital goods space remain a constraint but there is no constraint as far as BHEL's manufacturing capacity is concerned. In fact, for FY11, the company expects to manufacture 16000 MW versus 13000 MW in FY10, Rao said.

IndianOil eyes Rs 100 cr solar power plant in green thrust with BHEL as partner
Flagship refiner-marketer IndianOil Corporation is setting up a grid-linked solar power plant worth about Rs 100 crore at Barmer in Rajasthan, even as the state-run firm sharpens focus on non-conventional energy sources in an attempt to supplement fossil fuels earnings with carbon credits and move towards a green future.
Sources said IndianOil will set up the plant as an equal venture with government-run power equipment manufacturer Bhel. The plant will be set up on a parcel of land belonging to the oil company's marketing division, while Bhel will supply the panels and other paraphernalia. Most of the electricity generated from the plant will be sold to the general grid, while some quantity may be used for captive use.

BHEL ED Dube administers productivity pledge to GMs
The BHEL Executive Director MK Dube today administered productivity pledge to all general managers and senior executives in a simple function held at Administrative Building conference hall. Later on, employees were administered productivity pledge by respective HoDs.
On this occasion Dube appealed to work with commitment for the progress of company and the nation. He further said that all the employees are contributing towards Business Excellence keeping in mind mission, vision and goal of the company. It is worth mentioning here that on August 29, 1956 present BHEL was registered as HE (India) Ltd and construction of the factory started in 1958. The very first batch of the trainees launched formal production on July 1: , 1960. After independence it was a major breakthrough in the modern temple of India. Since then this day is celebrated as Productivity Day in BHEL and employees take production pledge to mark this occasion.
