Bhel-Kawasaki mull JV for metro coaches, propulsion system

Bhel (Bharat Heavy Industries Limited) and Japan-based Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI), are in talks for forming a joint venture to make locomotives and steel coaches for metro trains in India. If the two firms join hands, Bhel's Bhopal unit will be able to raise its turnover by Rs 1,500 crore to Rs 2,000 crore, a well-placed source in the public sector company told Business Standard. "Talks with Japanese firm Kawasaki are going on and are at an advanced stage. Bhel's Bhopal unit specialises in making motors and related systems such as control panels, alternators and propulsion systems. The unit will be given priority for making steel coaches," the source said. Various Indian states are developing metro rails and two lines of 32 km each have also been proposed in Bhopal and Indore. Bharat Heavy Electricals commissions 93 Megawatt steam turbine at Hazira

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), India's largest power plant equipment manufacturer, today announced it has commissioned a 93 megawatt steam turbine at the Reliance run Hazira plant in Gujarat. The 93 MW unit is the second unit in the 4 X 93 MW steam turbine based captive power project (CPP) being set at Hazira by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), according to a BHEL media release. RIL is also setting up a 3X93 MW steam based CPP at Dahej in Gujarat, the statement added. BHEL has so far supplied a total of four steam turbine for both the project and the remaining three turbines are planned to be commissioned during the current financial year. In the current fiscal year BHEL has so far added 600 MW capacity in its captive power plant segment, the government owned company has also added 2,180 MW capacity to the power utility segment capacity, the release added. BHEL commissions captive solar photo voltaic power plant in Trichy

A 5 Megawatt Peak (Mega Watt peak) grid interactive captive solar power plant has been commissioned by BHEL, Trichy, on its premises in June, as part of its efforts to promote the use of clean and renewable energy sources and to achieve significant reduction in energy costs. The captive power plant, including photovoltaic modules, power conditioning units, high tension switch gear panels and the SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system, were manufactured and supplied by BHEL's Electronics Division, Bengaluru. Utilizing an array of 19,968 photovoltaic modules spread over 25 acres, the solar power plant has already generated over 18 lakh units of electricity since June and is expected to facilitate substantial savings in energy costs over the long term. Payback period for the investment of about Rs 30 crore including civil works is expected to be just 5 years and 1 month while the operational life of the solar power plant will be a minimum of 25 years. While this is the first megawatt scale solar power plant at BHEL Trichy, it has earlier commissioned two 50 kW and one 20 kW solar power plants on the roof-tops of major office buildings including the Administrative Building. BHEL bags export orders from Togo, Benin

BHEL has expanded its footprint in the international market by securing export orders for supply of industrial motors to the African nations of Togo and Benin. Scancem International DA, Norway (Heidelberg Cement group) has placed the order for the motors for their cement plants, Ciments Du Togo S.A. & Cimbenin S.A, Benin, BHEL said in press release. According to the statement, the motors will be manufactured and supplied by BHEL's Bhopal unit. BHEL has been present in the African continent almost since its export journey commenced 45 years back and has references today in almost half of the African continent. The company has recently built 500 MW Kosti Thermal Power Plant - the largest in Sudan. The plant was inaugurated by President of Sudan Omer Hassan Ahmed El-Basheer. BHEL reports Rs 109 crore profit for Q2; order book stands at Rs 1.03 lakh crore

BHEL on Tuesday reported a net profit of Rs 109 crore for the quarter ended September 30. The number came in lower than Rs 120 crore that analysts had projected in an ETNow survey. The largest domestic engineering and manufacturing company had reported a loss of Rs 181 crore for the same quarter last year. Net sales for the quarter rose to Rs 6,550.77 crore, up 12.08 per cent YoY from Rs 5,844.50 crore reported for the corresponding quarter last year. Ebitda came in at Rs 155 crore , which was higher than Rs 139 crore anticipated by analysts in the ETNow poll. Margins stood at 2.4 per cent for the quarter against 2.1 per cent estimated by analysts.
