BHEL bags Rs 5,000-cr contract from Telangana power utility

The Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited (TSGenco) has awarded Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) with an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) order for setting up a 4x270 Mw thermal power plant in the state. Valued at over Rs 5,000 crore, the order envisages setting up the power plant at Manuguru in Khammam district. The project is targeted to be commissioned in 24 months on fast track basis with both TSGenco and BHEL setting up teams to expedite clearances and execution of the project, according to a BHEL press release on Monday. Earlier, in December, 2014, the power utility had placed an order for BHEL to set up the state's first supercritical thermal power plant of 800 Mw rating, also on EPC basis, at Kothagudem. TSGenco has also entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with BHEL for construction of new thermal power plants totaling 6,000 Mw in the state. All these power plants are expected to commence generation within the next three years to meet the state's increasing demand for power. With the order for Manuguru project, 1880 Mw has already been awarded to BHEL. more at: http://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/bhel-bags-rs-5-000-cr-contract-from-telangana-power-utility-115033000251_1.html

BHEL: Execution to remain sluggish as power projects await clearances

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (Bhel) shares have risen 14 per cent over the past month. Though the quarterly performance continues to show strain, most of the stock’s performance has to do with expectations of a turnaround in order flows. As is the case with many large-cap stocks, which have run up significantly on an expected revival in the economy, the Street’s view is turning cautious. The company’s earnings were expected to return to positive territory, after declining 35 per cent over three years. The formation of Telangana was said to be a turning point, as Bhel signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for 6 Gw with the state. The ride is not going to be as smooth as anticipated by the Street. For starters, earlier this month, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board is said to have scrapped the tender for the Udangudi Power Project, where Bhel was the lowest bidder. The bids were invited in 2013 and opened last year. According to Barclays, a new tender is expected to be released but finalisation is now likely in FY16, given the typical timelines for tender to order conversion. The brokerage does not expect this to impact its FY15 order inflow estimates but the event reduces near-term visibility on an order in which Bhel was L1 (lowest bidder). more at: http://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/bhel-execution-to-remain-sluggish-as-power-projects-await-clearances-115032400623_1.html

The government has firmed up a list of PSUs for divestment of minority stakes in the fiscal beginning next month, starting with Bhel, as it gears up to raise Rs 41,000 crore through such stake sales in 2015-16. Other companies which are on the list include NMDC, NALCO and IOC, with proposal for selling 10 percent stake in each. Stake sale in Bhel. ReutersStake sale in Bhel. Reuters Besides, 5 percent stake sales in ONGC, PFC and REC are also on the cards. Official sources said the disinvestment department has completed overseas roadshows in London, Singapore and Hong Kong for 5 percent stake sale in BHEL and the shares can be sold next month itself. At the current market price of Rs 260.75 a share, sale of 5 percent or over 12.23 crore shares in Bhel would fetch around Rs 3,200 crore to the exchequer. Sources said the disinvestment department feels shares of Bhel have been holding steady and the time may be right for going ahead with the stake sale. The government holds 63.06 percent in Bhel. In March 2014, the government had sold 4.66 percent stake in Bhel to LIC through a block deal for around Rs 1,800 crore. more at: http://www.firstpost.com/business/bhel-disinvestment-likely-april-may-fetch-rs-3200-cr-2161107.html

Truly a Ratan! BHEL commissions 3 units of 270 MW each in just 42 days

With the commissioning of the fifth 270 MW unit at the Amravati project of RattanIndia Power Limited, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has achieved a unique feat in the country's capacity addition programme by successfully commissioning three units of 270 MW each in just 42 days at a single site. The commissioning of the fifth unit at Amravati comes close on the heels of the commissioning of Units 3 and 4 (270 MW each) on 29/01/2015 and 04/03/2015, respectively. Located at village Nandgaonpeth in Amravati district of Maharashtra, the project is being executed in two phases, each of 1,350 MW, by RattanIndia Power Limited’s (formerly Indiabulls Power Limited). The sets of this rating class, supplied by BHEL, are considered as the workhorse and form the backbone of the Indian power sector. These sets have been performing much above the national average as well as international benchmarks. BHEL has so far contracted 247 sets of this rating class including 31 sets of 270 MW rating. In view of a large number of similar sets in operation in the country, utilities are assured of prompt delivery of spares and services. BHEL supplied thermal sets fully meet the performance standards notified by CEA. As per a recent CEA study on the performance of sub-critical sets in the country, BHEL supplied sets have demonstrated better operating Heat Rate resulting in less coal consumption per unit of power produced. ref: http://www.indiainfoline.com/article/news-top-story/truly-a-ratan-bhel-commissions-3-units-of-270-mw-each-in-just-42-days-115031600220_1.html

BHEL to develop ultra super-critical power equipment

BHEL will soon start work to develop power equipment based on advanced ultra super-critical technology, which will put the company in the league of the world’s top energy firms that have the capacity to produce highly energy-efficient equipment. Government sources told Financial Chronicle that the cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) would soon approve a pilot research and development project for BHEL to develop these advanced ultra super-critical (AUSC) equipment, which would then be commercialised. The government has approved a new scheme called ultra-modern super-critical coal-based thermal power technology. The government will contribute an initial investment of about Rs 100 crore for the R&D project. Later, BHEL may need to invest between Rs 10,000 crore and Rs 12,000 crore to set up new lines to manufacture the equipment. BHEL is already manufacturing super-critical power equipment in the 660-800 mw range. It has a technology agreement with French equipment major Alstom for super-critical boilers and was exploring a possible technology tieup with German engineering major Siemens for the ultra super-critical technology. ref: http://www.mydigitalfc.com/news/bhel-develop-ultra-super-critical-power-equipment-439
